The Kalahari Gateway Hotel & Conference Centre is situated in the heart of the Northern Cape, only approximately 40 kilometers from the Augrabies Falls and conveniently en route to the Namaqualand with its spectacular spring flowers. Relax in luxury in our lovely modern hotel, where outstanding service is guaranteed. Both the 26 hotel rooms with their rich atmosphere and 5 luxury rooms all have WiFi DSTV, air conditioning, telephones electronic safes, a desk for the business person and ADSL wireless internet access. Before the development of the hotel, there was a guesthouse on the site (see photo above). The hotel still makes use of some of the outbuildings of the initial guesthouse. These buildings has been renovated and adapted to make them more useful for present day use. The hotel has been built by the Steenkamp family in 1974 and remained in the family for a number of years, known as the Waterwiel Lodge. During the early years the hotel included a Casino where the KG's Sports Bar is located today. The botom section of the hotel to the right of the entrance where we today have guest rooms were an open area with the prospect of locating shops in this space and making the hotel a business complex. This idea that was way ahead of its time did unfortunately not work, and at a later stage rooms were built instead. Under his ownership the Lodge became a Hotel and earned its first stars. Then two Brittons, Steve and Mike bought the hotel and renamed it the Kalahari Gateway Hotel and Conference Centre. The present owner, Dick Venter bought the hotel in 2007 when Steve and Mike returned to England. He is constantly busy with creative upgrading projects. That the upgrading is met with positivity can be seen in the reaction of guests, as well as an increase in business. We are looking forward to treat you in our surprisingly modern rural hotel! Be on the lookout for guests that never seem to check out! Contrary to rumours of a different nature, it is however people of flesh and blood who so often visit us that it seems as if they never leave! The friendliness and helpfullness of our staff, the calm, tranquil surroundings, the beautiful setting all work together to ensure an experience of a lifetime.
